Happy Pride Month!
I attended an early Pride event last week in Columbus, TX and had the most amazing time!
I am honored to stand with the LGBTQ+ community; whether it is Pride month or not.
What is Pride Month?
Pride started as a riot. At a time when state sponsored, state inflicted homophobia was attacking the LGBTQ+ community, a small group of people fought back. Their actions changed the world. They put us on the path to legalizing being gay (it took Texas until 2003) and achieving marriage equality.
Pride today is both protest and celebration. Celebrating the awesome, powerful people of the LGBTQ+ community and showing the world that love wins. And standing together in the face of the many challenges the community still faces, protesting those who wish to deny freedom for all simply by existing and having pride.
Y’all means ALL!
As an ally, I’ll keep fighting for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. I pledge to always listen.
And I pledge to always have your backs.
Won’t you help me fight for a brighter future that includes everyone?
