Theresa Boisseau, an Austin-area resident for over 30 years and with ancestry deeply rooted in Texas, announced today she is forming an exploratory committee to run for Texas’ Tenth Congressional District. Theresa’s Texas roots include her maternal grandmother, who was born in Tyler, Texas, and her paternal great grandfather who settled an area on Baffin Bay in south Texas called Loyola Beach. It was in the small town of Riviera, Texas, that Theresa graduated from high school before moving to Austin.
The biggest inspiration to run comes from her daughter. In February 2021, on break from college due to Covid lock down, she and Theresa lived through the extreme winter storm that brought the Texas energy grid to the brink of failure and left most of Texas without power for days. After the cold broke and electricity was returned, her daughter confided in her, “What’s the point? The world is falling apart.” This admission fueled Ms. Boisseau to act and do something big, not just for her daughter, but for all Texas children. Theresa believes we must show young people that the government is committed to investing in their futures and that we are willing to confront heavy issues head on. She remarks, “Some people spend too much time trying to be good descendants of their parents and ancestors. While that is noble, we also need to spend more time ensuring we are good ancestors to future generations and caring about what kind of world we are leaving behind.”
Theresa is a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin. Post graduation she taught for nearly a decade in two Austin ISD schools and saw firsthand how crucial education is in opening opportunities for all children. Then, along with a sibling, she helped carry on their parents’ legacy by expanding the family real estate business and helping numerous families with their moves in and out and around the Austin metro area. The business is built on building trust with clients and other agents and continuing to follow principles that helped create a thriving business.
Theresa is assured that the skills learned through her decades-long involvement in the family business including the art of negotiation, striving to make each transaction a win-win while working with a broad spectrum of clients from varying socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures will prove invaluable. As someone who has experience with data-driven budgets and a solid network of professionals, Theresa knows how to bring people together in any situation for everyone’s success. As your Representative, she will fight to make Congress work for all constituents in District 10 and help build a brighter future for all Texans.
